HAITI: Préval recalls Alexis to the premiership

By Haitian standards, President René Préval, who took office on 14 May, is moving very fast. On 17 May he started the process of consultations with the leaders of both chambers of the legislature, Joseph Lambert (senate) and Pierre Eric Lean-Jacques (deputies), who are in charge of negotiating alliances. Within hours, Préval's office announced that Jacques-Edouard Alexis had been nominated as prime minister.
